The Perfect Transitional Object

The human mind and body are immensely complex creations. However, the basic needs and desires of us all are relatively similar and simple.

Two of the most important life sustaining needs, food and water, require that we bring objects to our mouths. Also, take for example: pacifiers, fingers, cigarettes and straws to name a few. Starting from birth, there is urge to bring satisfaction with our mouths; we are "oral creatures".

When a person is desperate to make a life-style change, they are often overly consumed with locating the ideal way to proceed. So much so, they create another excuse not to begin the change. By keeping it simple, one will save time, money, and a host of other potential complications and unhealthy habits.

Quitting an unhealthy habit is not a day at the beach. There needs to be a uncompromising desire to STOP. While books, therapy, programs and pills can play an important role and have saved countless lives, the human will is much stronger; no success comes without a change of mind/heart.

Using Your Xooma Water Dispenser as a Transitional Object

I define a Transitional Object as something which assists one as they move from a negative-habitual mannerism to a positive mannerism which poses no risk.


Stop Smoking

There is an oral fixation with smoking. It is also a psychological addiction.

When drinking from your X2O bottle, use the water stem as you would a cigarette. Pull in water as you would a "drag". Swallow the water. Inhale deeply through the nostrils. Remove the bottle. Hold your breath 2 seconds. Exhale, or blow out, exactly as you do when smoking.

Inhale deeply again through the nose and release the tension of craving a cigarette. Feel the hydration from the X2O. Feel the refreshment of oxygen, not mixed with smoke, deep and throughout your body.

Prepare yourself for success each day by holding your breath for a few seconds. During this period, seriously ponder how your existence is based based on clean air and water. Draw an analogy of your mind between pure, clean air and water. Take in a deep fresh breath and say out loud: "Today, I promise myself to be smoke free. Tomorrow, I will try again. But for only 24 hrs, I can make it."
